目前澳洲还在用的带米字旗主要是给总督，州政府，州总督用的，原因的话是英国人所到之处都会留点米字旗证明曾经拥有，不信你看山东威海其实曾经也有米字旗：

Thompson won the £25 prize and the flag has become known as the Herald Federal Flag. Federation was symbolised with six red stripes below the Union Jack and Australia was represented by the Southern Cross. Two versions were created, one with the Southern Cross on a blue background for use by the Government and another for general use with a red backgound. The design was both praised and criticised, leading to another competition by the Review of Reviews for Australasia magazine that was later incorporated into the Federal Government's flag design competition in 1901.
