About Mentone Girls' Secondary College

At Mentone Girls’ Secondary College, we are focused on ensuring that the curriculum is personalised, in order to meet the individual needs of our students. We acknowledge that the learning development of every student is unique. Taking this into account, we are committed to ensuring that teaching and learning practices support the needs of every student. For example, we have developed an integrated teaching program in English and humanities in Years 7 and 9, which allows students to express their learning in a range of different ways. A netbook program across the college assists students to develop the skills they need to represent their ideas and understanding in an appropriate format for the 21st century.

The college is committed to fostering student health and wellbeing and to addressing issues relating to selfesteem and self-efficacy. We have adopted a proactive approach to issues of online safety and physical and mental wellbeing.

Mentone Girls’ Secondary College values the development of the whole person and resources a broadranging co-curricular program. Our students achieve excellence in a wide range of individual and team sports and in the performing and visual arts. We have a strong focus on developing the leadership skills of our students by offering extensive opportunities for students to take on these roles. The establishment of relationships with schools in South Africa, France, Japan and China, and participation in the World Challenge program provide opportunities for students to gain a global perspective whilst enriching the culture of our college.

Our college has been extensively rebuilt and refurbished; most recently a new Year 7 Junior Learning Centre, a music centre and a media facility have been completed. We have excellent physical resources to support continuing improvement in learning and teaching. We will continue to resource facilities that provide opportunities to teach in new and different ways, to meet the learning needs of each individual student.
