Great things come from a small package
Situated in the inner-eastern suburb of Balwyn, Fintona is an independent, non-denominational day school for girls. Fintona's outstanding VCE results, 62 per cent of students in the top ten per cent of the state with an ATAR of 90 or more in 2012, place us among the top-performing schools in Victoria and are the culmination of the personal attention students receive in a small school.
From its commencement in 1896, Fintona has espoused the view that ‘girls can do anything’ and has encouraged students to be critical, independent thinkers, empowered to take their place as active, effective citizens and leaders. Our friendly, supportive and caring environment, together with our broad-based education programs, provide our girls with many experiences to stretch them beyond expectation and to cope with life beyond school. Inspired by our exceptional teachers, a Fintona girl will find the confidence to soar and achieve her highest academic and personal aspirations. She will develop a deep love of knowledge, the courage to excel, a global outlook and a deep sense of social responsibility.
Our beautiful school grounds include a mix of historic buildings and modern facilities, such as our refurbished Early Learning Centre and landscaped, eco-friendly gardens in the Junior School. The addition of our Middle School House and playground and our state-of-the-art Health and Wellbeing Centre provide our girls with even more opportunities to move into the future with confidence and optimism.
Fintona consists of the Early Learning Centre (coeducational), Junior School (Prep to Year 4), Middle School (Year 5 to Year 8) and Senior School (Year 9 to Year 12) to enable a specific academic and pastoral focus. The Early Learning Centre curriculum is based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy, while the International Baccalaureate is taught from ELC to Year 6. Scholarships are available from Years 5 to 10.
For entry into Years 5 to 8. Awarded for academic excellence. Based on an exam.
Covers 20 per cent to 50 per cent of tuition fees for the duration of enrolment. Number awarded varies.
